Homestead Application Deadline Is April 1

Bartow County Tax Commissioner Steve Stewart reminds new homeowners and those who have moved or changed ownership names to apply for the Homestead Exemption.

The Homestead Exemption will reduce the amount of property tax you owe on your home.

That's why Bartow County Tax Commissioner Steve Stewart is reminding new homeowners and those who have moved or changed ownership names to apply before the April 1 deadline.

While rental property does not qualify, residents who owned and lived in their homes on Jan. 1 can qualify for the exemption, but state law requires applications for this year be filed by April 1.

Stewart said several types of Homestead Exemptions have been enacted, and once granted automatically renew each year. Taxpayers are not required to apply again unless their exemption is based on income.

Apply for the exemption at the Tax Commissioner's Office and call the office at 770-387-5111 with questions about Homestead.
