I-75 Bridge Repair Will Continue Through Weekend: GDOT

The concrete slab was damaged Thursday on the southbound approach to the bridge over Allatoona Dam Road in Bartow County.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The Georgia Department of Transportation and its contractor are working to repair the approach to the Interstate 75 southbound bridge over Allatoona Dam Road in Bartow County.

The concrete slab was damaged Thursday afternoon, and crews were forced to close two inside southbound lanes so it can repair the area. Georgia DOT said it will "continue to work through the night and the weekend" so it can reopen the lanes to the traveling public.

"We are making every effort to complete the repair as soon as possible," said Grant Waldrop, district engineer for the DOT office in Cartersville. "We will be using fast setting concrete mix and getting our steel manufacturer to work through the night in order to deliver the required reinforcement steel tomorrow. These are just a few examples."

Georgia DOT immediately put message boards and other signs up to help motorists navigate around the closed lanes and avoid congestion and delays due to the closure. Residents can get around the congestion by using the Ga. 113/Main Street interchange, which is north of the affected area.

Once you get on Ga. 113, turn right and continue towards U.S. 41/Joe Frank Harris Parkway. Turn left to go southbound on U.S. 41 until you reach Red Top Mountain Road. Once at Red Top, be sure to turn left where you will continue to access I-75 southbound.
