I-75 Resurfacing Begins In Bartow County

The resurfacing project runs 28 miles from Glade Road to Chatsworth Highway.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The Georgia Department of Transportation has formally kicked off its long-awaited project to resurface Interstate 75 in Bartow County.

The project includes 28.9 miles of milling and plant mix resurfacing on I-75 from north of Glade Road/Exit 278 and to Chatsworth Highway/Exit 293.

GDOT's contractor will perform the paving work mostly at night, and nightly lane closures on this portion of I-75 are scheduled as follows:

  • Single lane closures will be allowed on weeknights between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Single lane closures will be allowed on weekends from 7 p.m. Friday night until 6 a.m. on Monday morning.
  • Double lane closures will be allowed when necessary on weeknights between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Sunday.
  • Single ramp closures will be allowed when needed only between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. In the case of any ramp closures, Georgia DOT will inform the media and traveling public of the planned alternate routes 7-10 days prior to any ramp work.

“Georgia DOT wants to constrict traffic flow on I-75 as little as possible while working on this much-needed resurfacing project,” said Grant Waldrop, district engineer at the DOT office in Cartersville. “We have made every effort to minimize the impact of construction work on the heavy traffic the interstate carries during the day. Working at night and on weekends; scheduling the lane closures after the evening rush hour, and reopening these lanes before the morning rush hour; and informing the public in advance of all scheduled lanes closures are only a few examples of these efforts.

This project, costing a little more than $13 million, is scheduled to be completed by the end on April 2019. Of course, motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through this work zone. Please pay attention, exercise caution and watch for workers.
