ICYMI: Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup On Saturday
The 31st annual event will include thousands of volunteers patrolling the banks of the waterway for trash and debris.
CARTERSVILLE, GA -- For more than 30 years, thousands of Great Lake Allatoona Clean Up volunteers have gathered along the banks of the body of water to take part in one of the largest events of its kind in the country.
Last year, 3,200 volunteers picked up 11 tons of trash along the lake shore in a three-hour period.
Those like-minded individuals are once again invited to come out the morning of Saturday, Sept. 24 to pick up trash along the lake from 9 a.m. to noon.
You can register online at www.greatallatoonacleanup.org. Following the service, a volunteer appreciation picnic event will be held at Riverside Day Use Park in Cartersville.

This year’s picnic event, set from noon to 2 p.m., will include music and a DJ from the TC Show and more than a dozen booths featuring educational games and activities on water conservation, safety, preservation and much more.
Volunteers will receive a badge at their clean-up site, which will also serve as their passport to this all-free event.

Organizers are in need of boat captains to transport volunteers to and from cleanup sites.
If you are over 18 years of age and have a boat that meets all Georgia DNR requirements, your services are in demand. You will receive a $25 gift card for gas expenses. Interested parties can go online to register for the service and view the requirements to serve as boat captains.
You can also call Dean Bourne for additional information at (770)-367- 9898.
The Great Lake Allatoona Clean Up event is funded through cash and in-kind donations and is run by a committee of hard working volunteers who work all year long to make sure the initiative is successful.
This year, the committee has set up a GoFundMe campaign, and the money raised will be used for expenses for the clean-up and volunteer appreciation picnic held after the campaign.
