Intruder Stopped At Cartersville High School, Says School System

An unidentified man tried to enter Cartersville High School on Wednesday morning, but an administrator and police officer stopped him.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — An unidentified intruder tried to enter Cartersville High School on Wednesday morning, but he was escorted off the campus without incident, school officials said. Video surveillance footage showed that the man did not have any contact with students, the Cartersville City Schools announced on its Facebook page.

At 7:36 a.m. Wednesday, about an hour before the start of classes, the man walked onto the campus of the high school.

"He entered the building through a door that had been propped open by students who were at the school for a meeting," the school system said in a statement.

Two minutes later, a school administrator approached the man, and the administrator and the school's police officer then escorted him off the campus.

The Cartersville City Schools did not release a description of the man or say what he was wearing.

The school system thanked the unidentified administrator and police officer for their quick response.

"The safety and security of our students and staff at Cartersville High School are of the utmost importance to us," the school system said. "We are continually having discussions with our staff to ensure that safety procedures are known and followed."
