Lane Closure Planned On I-75 In Bartow County

Georgia DOT crews will be repairing deteriorating asphalt on the northbound side between mile markers 280 and 281.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Motorists traveling on the northbound side of Interstate 75 through Bartow County should expect a lane closure on Tuesday. The left lane will be closed between mile marker 280 and 281 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 3, the Georgia Department of Transportation said.

The closure is needed so maintenance crews can repair deteriorating asphalt spots on this segment of the interstate. The planned work and lane closures are both based upon the weather and could change, GDOT added.

The Georgia DOT has been working on repairing I-75 throughout Bartow County after repeated reports from residents who said rocks from the deteriorating are damaging their windshields.

GDOT spokesperson Mohamed Arafa previously told Patch that the agency hired a contractor to begin sweeping the shoulders of the interstate to remove smaller-sized rocks from the highway. Arafa also said those efforts should be seen as temporary measures, as GDOT is hard at work trying to come up with a steadfast solution.

The department, which he said has been monitoring the conditions of the interstate, said there is project in the works that would "permanently resolve this issue" between the Glade Road and Cass-White road interchanges. The project calls for resurfacing this stretch of I-75 and should be sent out for bid in the next two to three months.

If things move ahead smoothly, Arafa said GDOT anticipates mobilizing a contractor "immediately" onto the project once the contract is award. Once that happens, he notes GDOT hopes to complete the resurfacing this paving season.
