Man Shot in the Arm Near Cartersville Motel

The victim told Bartow County authorities the shooter tried to sell him marijuana, then patted him down.

A Rome man says he was shot in the arm by another man who tried to sell him marijuana in Cartersville.

The victim, 27, said he was walking in the area of Guest House and the Merchants Square shopping center Sunday between 9:30 and 10 p.m. when a man driving an older model pick-up truck approached, and asked "if he wanted to buy some weed," according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office report, above.

"I don't do that stuff," the victim twice told the man, who got out of the truck and started to pat the victim's pocket, as if he were looking for money. The victim told deputies he pushed away the man, who then pulled a handgun from his right front pocket and shot the victim in the left forearm.

The man jumped back in the truck and drove away, and the victim ran into nearby woods and called a friend to come and pick him up, he told police. His friend spotted the victim walking near Crown Inn, saw the wound and drove him to the hospital, she said, according to the report.

The bullet appeared to have entered the wrist area and exited the top part of the forearm, noted a deputy, who was dispatched to Cartersville Medical Center shortly before midnight.
