Man Snatches Girlfriend's Child, Charged With Kidnapping: Police
Authorities charged a Bartow man with kidnapping and assault after they say he forced a collision with his girlfriend, then took her child.
CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Bartow County man is in jail Tuesday, charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and other felonies after authorities say he forced a collision with his girlfriend’s SUV, then snatched away one of her children.
Gene Patrick Tomlinson, 34, of White was arrested Sunday morning by Bartow County Sheriff’s deputies, according to online records. He was then booked into the Bartow County Jail on one charge of kidnapping, four charges of aggravated assault, four charges of false imprisonment and three charges of child cruelty, all felonies.
According to the incident report as related by WBHF Community Radio in Cartersville, Tomlinson chased a woman identified as his girlfriend after she left his home at about 3 a.m. Sunday with her children.

At one point, the woman told authorities, Tomlinson passed her SUV on Bells Ferry at State Route 20, then pulled his own SUV in front of her and slammed on his brakes, almost causing a collision. When Tomlinson got out and started beating on her SUV’s windows, the woman told authorities, she drove away.
Tomlinson then got into his SUV and raced ahead of her again — and this time she hit him. When she got out of her SUV to check on her kids, she told authorities, Tomlinson grabbed one of them — a 4-year-old — and sped off.

Tomlinson was later captured after he jumped out of a window of his home when he saw police coming, according to the incident report as related by the Cartersville radio station. The child was located in the home, unharmed.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Tomlinson was being held without bond in the Bartow County Jail.
