In Memory: Floyd Ponder Jr., "Mayor" Of Burnt Hickory Road

A Cartersville native, Ponder, 76, was a self-employed farmer for many years.

Floyd Nolan Ponder, Jr., age 76, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Mr. Ponder was born on Nov. 20, 1940 in Cartersville, the son of the late Floyd Nolan Ponder, Sr. and Cleo Jackson Ponder.

Mr. Ponder was a self-employed farmer for many years. He was known to all of his friends as the "mayor" of Burnt Hickory Road.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Liz Ponder; daughters, Karen (Wayne) Reed; Connie (Mark) Chase and Carisa (Donnie) Myrick; step-daughter, Rita Kreczmer; step-sons, Shane (Sherry) Copeland and Shannon (Nakeisha) Copeland; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ronnie (Kathy) Ponder; several special nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 26 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Corey Martin officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Reed, Mark Chase, Donnie Myrick, Haney Cochran, David Holt and Wiley Sullins Jake Sullins. Honorary pallbearers are Jake Sullins, Brad Hendricks, Harold Gentry, David Evans, Heath Massey Shannon Cagle and Bailey Arrington.
