PSAT 8/9 Coming To Bartow County Middle Schools

The Bartow County School System will offer the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test 8/9 to middle school students on Jan. 24.

BARTOW COUNTY, GA – Calling all eighth-grade students! Sharpen your pencils because the Bartow County School System is offering another free Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) on Jan. 24.

The PSAT 8/9 is a standardized assessment designed for younger students that provides practice for the SAT and identifies what students need to work on in high school to be ready for college after graduation.

The Reading section focuses on processing information, similar to what you might experience in a thoughtful, evidence-based discussion.

In the Writing and Language section, the test taker will take on the role of an editor, improving passages written especially for the test. Students will use the same skills they use to proofread their own schoolwork.

The Mathematics section covers a range of math practices, with an emphasis on problem-solving, modeling, algebraic structure and using tools strategically.

“This test will establish a baseline measurement of college and career readiness as students enter high school,” said Phillip Page, the Bartow County School System superintendent, in a statement.

“We encourage students to take the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT before taking the SAT," he said. "Bartow County students, families and teachers will then have the data to strengthen educational plans and create tailored enrichment activities that build on current successes.”

Student scores will be available in the spring. For more information, please see your middle school's guidance counselor.
