Scott Sherwin named to head Bartow’s CASA program
Bartow CASA coordinates volunteers appointed in juvenile court proceedings

Because of the ever-growing foster child population in Cartersville and the surrounding communities, an important role is caring for abused and neglected children. Advocates for Children in Bartow is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Sherwin to direct the Court Appointed Special Advocates program.
“CASA volunteers are like community case managers, checking on the foster children they are assigned to be sure the children’s well-being is primary. Children who have faced abuse or neglect must have the opportunity to thrive,” Sherwin said.
He came to Advocates for Children recently after serving with DFCS as Director of SKORE (Supporting Kids on the Road to Excellence). The pilot program provides resources to youth who are runaways, truant or ungovernable. He helped provide needs-based assistance to youth and their families.

With many years of experience helping children in Bartow, Sherwin is now working to build the support for foster children in this area. “Our goal is for every child to have a safe permanent home. CASA volunteers help make that happen.
“In fact, we are about to launch a virtual training program on Oct. 1 and hope many more people in our community will want to get involved in changing lives,” he said. Interested volunteers should call the CASA office to receive more details and register at 770-386-1060, ext. 241.

He said that while he is a community engagement specialist, much of his leadership training came from the corporate world. With 20 years of experience at Equifax, Sherwin was able to learn from national accounts management responsibility and training. “My corporate experience flows well into now leading for a cause that’s important to me…. the welfare of children.”
His current expertise includes 12 years of leading a weekly leadership group for students at Red Top Middle School through Bartow Public Health, Adolescent Health and Youth Development. He has also spent the past 10 years working as a program coordinator with Bartow Against Drugs and seven years as the School Readiness and Success team chairman with the Bartow Collaborative.
Sherwin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Georgia Southern University and a Master’s of Science in Conflict Management from Kennesaw State University.
