"Stacking of Arms' Civil War Lecture Set For Nov. 1
A special lecture by Civil War historian Michael K. Shaffer will be held at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville.

General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to Lieutenant General U.S. Grant at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
The terms Grant extended served as a template for negotiations with the various Confederate forces continuing to offer resistance. After four years of fighting, the American Civil War - unlike similar conflicts in other nations - ended with the victor focusing on reunification instead of annihilation.
Stacking of Arms: The Civil War Surrender Ceremonies, a special lecture series by Civil War historian Michael K. Shaffer, will be held at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville.
