Train Derails at Plant Bowen in Bartow, Injuring 2

One of the trains three locomotives derailed, but its 94 coal cars remained on the tracks.

A CSX train derailed overnight as it left Georgia Power's Plant Bowen outside Cartersville after delivering coal.

The derailment at Highway 113 and Beasley Road in Bartow County sent two CSX workers to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, CBS Atlanta reports. Only one of the train's three engines derailed; its 94 empty coal cars remained on the tracks, fire officials told the station.

The train engine that originated in Evansville, IN, overturned about 11:15 p.m., causing minor injuries to the workers, who were taken to Floyd Medical Center in nearby Rome for treatment, according to 11 Alive and CBS Atlanta.

Early Wednesday morning, CSX was working to reopen the tracks, reported WSB-TV. Railroad officials also are trying to determine what caused the train engine to derail, according to CBS Atlanta.
