Two Family Members Perish In Easter Sunday Fire In Bartow County

Two family members made it out alive — but two didn't — in a blaze that swept through a Bartow County home on Easter Sunday.

CARTERSVILLE, GA —Two members of a family died Easter Sunday when their Bartow County home caught fire with them inside it.

Bartow County firefighters arrived early Sunday evening to find a house at 170 Oak Leaf Dr. on fire and burning heavily, according to a statement from Bartow County Fire and Emergency Services as reported by WXIA-TV.

Two family members had escaped safely, authorities said, but two others remained inside. The burning house eventually collapsed, hampering search efforts for the two victims, who weren’t found until early Monday morning.

The two family members who escaped were taken to Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell to be treated for possible smoke inhalation.

None of the family members have been identified publicly by authorities, who are still investigating the cause of the fire. However, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that a GoFundMe page has been established that indirectly identifies the victims as the mother and son of one of the survivors.
