Shamrock Gardens Apartment Fire Update

Firefighter in serious condition. At least three families relocated.

A firefighter was in serious condition late Friday after falling from a ladder at the at 1800 Honeysuckle Lane.

The firefighter fell approximately 25 feet at the complex—which also has an address of 1988 Plaza Lane and is off Campbellton Road. The firefighter is at Grady Hospital.

According to a news release about the fire, Atlanta firefighters responded to a call about a structure fire with entrapment at 4:25 a.m. Friday.

The first arriving units reported a working structure fire on a two-story wood frame apartment on a basement with heavy smoke and fire visible on two floors and the attic with no entrapment, according to the release. Arriving firefighters made an interior fire attack and search of the structure.

While working from a ground ladder, one firefighter fell approximately 25 feet and was transported to Grady.

The fire appears to have originated in the kitchen area of the structure, and the cause is under investigation.

Six of the twelve apartment units received heavy smoke, fire, and water damage. Three of the units were vacant. The Red Cross is assisting at least three families in finding temporary homes.
