APS Educator Named Finalist For Georgia Teacher Of the Year

Jerry Kosoff, a calculus and statistics teacher at KIPP, has been named one of 10 finalists for Georgia Teacher Of the Year.

ATLANTA, GA -- A calculus and statistics teacher at KIPP Atlanta Collegiate High School has been named one of 10 finalists for 2018 Georgia Teacher of the Year, Patch has learned. Jerry Kosoff was 2016-17 Teacher of the Year at Atlanta Public Schools.

Kosoff is the first charter school teacher in the history of APS to be named a finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year. The 10 finalists were pruned from 150 applicants, all of whom previously were named their respective school district’s Teacher of the Year. Next for Kosoff is a series of interviews and speeches which will be judged a panel presided over by State School Superintendent Richard Woods. The Georgia Teacher of the Year winner will be announced June 12.

Kosoff is the fourth APS teacher in the last three years to be named a finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year, following gifted teacher Rita Simmons McGlothin (2015), math teacher Tamika N. Ball (2014) and special education teacher Elisha Gray (2013).
