Arrest Made After Fairburn Road Standoff

A gunman at the Wildwood Apartments opened fire on a man and into an apartment before barricading himself in a standoff with police Tuesday.

A man who fired gunshots at a neighbor taking out trash at the Wildwood Apartments and then barricaded himself inside an apartment is in police custody, according to a statement from Atlanta Police.

The man, who was not identified, fired at a man taking his trash to a dumpster at 405 Fairburn Road, according to Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones. The apartment complex is just down the street from the at Fairburn and Benjamin E. Mays Dr.

Officers went to that apartment but the suspect would not come to the door or come out of the apartment, Jones said.

SWAT personnel were brought in and they surrounded the building and attempted to negotiate with the man, but he did not respond.

After an arrest warrant was issued, SWAT members fired tear gas into the apartment and found the suspect inside.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
