Atlanta Schools Now Accepting Transfer Applications

The process is continuing through April 1.

Atlanta Public Schools is accepting applications for general administrative transfers and Georgia Special Needs scholarship transfers from March 12 through April 1, 2016 for the 2016-2017 school year.

Georgia’s Public School Choice law allows city of Atlanta residents to attend a public school outside of their zoned school when space is available. Students living outside the city’s boundaries may apply to attend any school in the district, if space is available and with the payment of non-resident tuition.

APS offers two types of school choice transfers:

1. General Administrative Transfers – permits a student to attend an out-of-zone school through completion of the highest grade of the school.

Transportation under this public school choice option is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. The granting of a transfer for one child under school choice does not ensure approval of siblings for current or future school years. Out-of-district residents may apply; however, their applications are considered after the applications of resident students. Out-of-district tuition rates for 2016-2017 are $11,531 for general students and $15,010 for special education students.

A list of transfer schools posted to the APS Student Transfer website March 7, and parents/guardians can complete the General Administrative Transfers and Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Transfers online at the APS Student Transfer at http://www.atlanta.k12.ga.us/transfers. Paper applications are available at the Department of Student Relations, 130 Trinity Avenue (2nd Floor), Atlanta, GA 30303.

Only applications requesting a school from the transfer list will be accepted. Transfer application submission dates:

Saturday March 12 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Monday – Friday March 14 – April 1 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Parents may apply anytime during the application window. Applications will be only accepted for schools with available spaces before the April 1, 2016 deadline. Applications submitted on the last day will receive the same consideration as applications submitted on the first day. Student transfers are granted based upon space availability. Individual schools are not permitted to allow students residing out of their attendance zone to enroll without an approved transfer.
