Cascade Native One of Obama's "Champions of Change"

Kwanza Fisher, founder of Neighborhood Mathematica, a supplemental math education program for Atlanta students, is one of 11 national youth entrepreneurs honored by the Obama Administration.

Kwanza Fisher, a Cascade Patch correspondent and southwest Atlanta native, is one of 11 youth entrepreneurs honored by the Obama Administration as Champions of Change.

Fisher and her fellow champions visited the White House earlier this month and shared business and non-profit ideas for improving their communities.

Fisher is founder and executive director of Neighborhood Mathematica, a math education initiative that she founded after graduating from Wellesley College in 2009 with a degree in East Asian Studies.

The initiative recruits and trains volunteer math coaches to drill elementary and middle school students in math concepts and then compete in regional contests.

She was also one of three winners of an Atlanta "100 Urban Entrepreneurs and Operation Hope"grant of $10,000 to establish or develop an entrepreneurial venture.

The other two winners were Lawrence Watkins and Brittany Earls.
