Cascade Writer's Story Among Features on New Patch Facebook Civil War Page

Patch page focuses on Civil War events, commemorations in southwest Atlanta and other area communities.

This past April 12, the nation marked the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War.

Patch has launched a Civil War Page on Facebook to highlight all the events in the different Patch communities where the war played a role — from battle commemorations and reenactments, to book readings, memorials and other events.

Among the first featured stories on the page, is "150 Years: Civil War Battles Fought Right Here in Southwest Atlanta," by Cascade Patch correspondent Tammy Garnes.

Garnes' story tells of a great, great, great grandfather from Arkansas who fought for the Union. Garnes also tells of several battles fought in southwest Atlanta, including on land now known as Ben Hill, Sandtown, Cascade, Adams Park, East Point, Camp Creek and Campbellton.
