Our First Year: Thanks for Telling My Grandmother Mary Spivey's Wonderful Story

'My grandmother is a wonderful person and an even more wonderful grandmother.' —Ebony Hairston, granddaughter of 1933 Morehouse Graduate Mary Spivey.

Editor's Note: Cascade Patch celebrates its first anniversary this month. This Letter to the Editor from Mary Spivey's granddaughter was in response to a profile of the female Morehouse graduate by seniors' correspondent Delores "Dee" Turner that ran April 20, 2011. Ebony Hairston sent these pictures and letter, which ran May 20, 2011.

Dear Cascade Patch,

I want to thank Ms. Delores Turner for bringing my grandmother's story to your website. She was so SURPRISED to hear from Morehouse and receive the invitation to their graduation. My grandmother is a wonderful person and an even more wonderful grandmother.

Here are pictures from the Morehouse Commencement Sunday where she was honored.

Ms. Turner, without you and your willingness to write the article, none of this would have happened.

You are a TRUE BLESSING!!!

Thank you, again!

— Ebony Hairston, granddaughter
