District 2 Runoff Candidate Byron Amos Casts Ballot

Front runner Angela Brown plans to vote later today.

Byron Amos, a candidate in the runoff for the District 2 Atlanta School Board seat, was at the polls early today.

A community organizer and CEO of Capacity Builders in Vine City, Amos voted at Friendship Towers, 35 Northside Dr., shortly after the polls opened.

Front runner Angela Brown says she plans to vote around 2:30 p.m. today after some campaigning.

A graduate of Washington High School who also has worked in the hip-hop music industry, Amos came in second in a field of five in the November elections with 24 percent.

Amos is running against Angela Brown, a community organizer and Historic West End resident. Brown finished in the lead in a field of five candidates with 38 percent of the vote in November. Brown's campaign site is ElectAngelaBrown.com. For more on Brown, see .

The two candidates are seeking the seat previously held by Khaatim Sherrer El, who also served as school board chairman before he resigned on July 11 amidst one of the nation's largest incidents of academic fraud in history, the Atlanta public school system cheating scandal.
