For Serving: Special Driver's License for Military Veterans

Thanks to a change at the Georgia Department of Driver Services, veterans will no longer have to carry around forms to prove they were in the military. Starting today, the department is allowing all veterans, regardless of when or where they served, to request a special license or identification card denoting their service, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal announced this week.

Previously, any veteran who didn’t meet certain eligibility and/or service measures couldn’t request a license.

The new patriotic veteran’s license will be priced the same as a regular Georgia license or ID card.

Now, not only will veterans be immediately acknowledged for their service, but they’ll also be able to more easily take advantage of veterans’ perks and discounts at retailers.

"We are grateful to our partners at the Department of Driver Services for championing this change," Georgia Department of Veterans Service Commissioner Pete Wheeler, told the Northwest Georgia News. "Now every veteran, regardless of service, will be able to proudly carry a Georgia Veteran's Driver's License/ID Card.
