Earlybirds Work for the 32nd Annual Sickle Cell Road Race

Several hundred at Welcome All Park before 7 a.m. Saturday. The annual race/walk is the largest event of its kind in southwest Atlanta.

The early birds got the worm before dawn Saturday at the 32nd Annual Road Race,  at Welcome All Park, 4255 Will Lee Rd.

Members of the 50-strong South Fulton Running Partners—many of whom were on the site by 5:30 a.m.—handled their annual duties while dozens of Sickle Cell Foundation volunteers gathered in organized clusters to review final plans for the event.

More than 1,000 walkers and runners are expected today. Registration is open right up to the 9 a.m. run start and 9:15 a.m. walk start. A large awards ceremony is set for approximately 10:30 a.m. in the main gym of the park.
