ICYMI: Uber Driver Carjacked In Southwest Atlanta: Report

Uber driver is carjacked on Cascade Road in southwest Atlanta, according to news report.

ATLANTA, GA -- An Uber driver was carjacked in southwest Atlanta after she pulled into a local Shell gas station to vacuum her car. Patricia Billingsley said that when she was cleaning her car Sunday at the gas station on Cascade Road, it was interesting that a teenager was staring her in the face, according to news reports.

Seconds later, the boy was upon her -- and in the car. “When I opened my door, he just looked at me, slammed on the gas and drove off in reverse,” Billingsley said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

She said the impact sent her to the pavement, where she hit her head as she landed on her back, the TV station reports. Billingsley said that she will be OK.

Onlooker Sojourner Marable Grimmett said she saw the carjacker drive off but she couldn't stop him, electing instead to help the fallen woman.

“So by the time that I got here ... I just held her,” Grimmett told WSB. She said that her patronage of the gas station was an exception: She's avoided going there because of similar incidents last year.

"She, unfortunately, hit the ground really hard. She hit her head on the ground, all I knew to do was help her, so I dialed 911 and embraced her," Grimmett told WAGA-TV.

Meanwhile, the Uber driver said that she'll continue to go to the gas station; she's not worried about carjackers. “I can’t live my life in fear,” Billingsley was quoted as saying in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police are looking for a 2008 blue Chevrolet Equinox that was stolen in the attack.
