Man Shot Wednesday After Opening Door to Apartment

A man was shot and critically wounded early Wednesday after answering a knock on the door of of an apartment at the Villas at Lakewood complex off Amal Drive, local news is reporting.

"There was a knock on the door, the gentleman opened the door and after he opened the door, several gunshots were heard and that's when he was hit," Atlanta police Capt. Van Hobbs told WSB Channel 2  News.

According to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report on the incident, the victim is in his 40s.

Police said the man was shot at least twice. “A couple of gunshot wounds to his stomach,” Hobbs said in the Channel 2 report. Witnesses told officers they saw two men running from the apartment.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police are still trying to determine a connection between the victim and suspect.
