After a three-year hiatus, the fine art market that combines work that is visual, wearable and decorative returns to Greenbriar Mall as part of the National Black Arts Festival (NBAF), July 14-17.

According to an NBAF news release, the popular "Arts Zone," which had relocated to other venues in recent years, will celebrate a return to Greenbrial, with a noon ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 14, at the mall.

The exciting four-day event will showcase artists and craftsmen who specialize in painting, printmaking, glass, ceramic, fiber art, sculpture, jewelry, leather, photography, dolls and mixed media, according to the release. More than 30 artists will be on hand to share their talents with the public.

Admission is free and free parking is always available. One unique aspect of this year’s event will be the opportunity for people to watch the artists at work and talk with them up close and personal about their techniques, concepts and messages.

“We are creating ‘hot spots’ throughout the mall where patrons can actually see the artists in action,” explains K. Joy Peters, who coordinated the NBAF Artists’ Market for 20 years. “These are established artists whose work is quite valuable and collectors’ items.”

Greenbriar Mall is celebrating 46 years as a community partner and business leader.

“When the artist market moved, there was an outcry from the community to come back,” says Greenbriar marketing director Gwendolyn Motley. “This is our way to show our appreciation for their support and to celebrate these great artists.”

Special musical artists and performers are expected to appear at various times during the event.

The Medu Bookstore, located inside the mall, will feature dynamic authors and poets who will be signing their work on site.

“People will be amazed at the transformation the Art Zone will make at Greenbriar and we urge the community to come out to support them,” says Peters. For more information, go to www.ShopGreenbriar.com or call 404-344-6611.
