Photo Gallery: Providence Hosts First Annual Street Fair for 140th Anniversary

Music, vendors, food, and fun made for a great day Saturday at Providence Missionary Baptist Church community fair, part of the church's 140th anniversary celebration.

As part of the church's 140th anniversary celebration, hosted its first annual community street festival Saturday at Benjamin E. Mays Drive and Beecher Road.

The free event included performances, live music, health screening and games and activities for kids and adults. In addition, vendors showcasing original art, jewelry and other items were on hand to make the day complete.

For 140 years, Providence has had a major impact on Atlanta and the state of Georgia. Providence grew out of Friendship Baptist Church on Mitchell Street in Atlanta following the Civil War and the emancipation of slaves.

In 1995, the church relocated to 2295 Benjamin E. Mays. Since 1987, has led the congregation as senior pastor.
