'Walking Dead' Stuntman Dies After Falling 30 Feet On Set: ICYMI
Stuntman John Bernecker suffered serious head injuries when he fell 30 feet, landing on a concrete floor while filming "The Walking Dead."
ATLANTA, GA -- A stuntman who was badly hurt in an accident on the set of "The Walking Dead" has died, according to news reports. John Bernecker dropped about 30 feet Wednesday while taping a scene. He reportedly suffered serious head injuries when he landed on a concrete floor.
Bernecker, a veteran of the film industry, has worked on several high-profile productions including "The Fate of the Furious," "Logan" "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" and "Blank Panther" here in Atlanta. He was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was treated before he succumbed to his injuries, AMC, the show's producer, said.
AMC released a statement Thursday afternoon on Bernecker's death, saying that they had temporarily shut down production. “We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for ‘The Walking Dead’ and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set," the company said, according to Deadline. He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
"The Walking Dead" has been filmed in metro Atlanta in all its eight seasons, with primary shooting being down in and around Senoia. It is unknown when the hit show will resume production.
