Accountant Announces Run for Forsyth Seat in State Senate
Michael Williams wants to be the next Georgia GOP senator from District 27, which covers Cumming and nearly all of Forsyth County.

Michael Williams has announced his candidacy for State Senate District 27, which includes nearly all of Forsyth County, according to the press release.
Williams has a strong background in accounting and business, and he is committed to supporting tough ethics legislation, reducing the size and scope of government, improving the state’s economy and ensuring local communities control their children’s education.

“I have always been motivated to work hard and get ahead, to make a living for myself and grow jobs to help others provide a living for their families,” Williams said in the release. ”But too often, government gets in the way. I’m running because I want to serve the people by making government smaller, less intrusive and more accountable.”

As a state senator, Williams would help to create tougher ethics legislation, including a ban on all lobbyist gifts to legislators He would reform Georgia’s tax code to support job creation, and support and strengthen the autonomy of local school boards to create better education for Georgia’s children.
“Government was created to serve the needs of the people,” Williams said, “but at every level we see government operating as though the people serve it. I want to put the idea of service back into public servant, starting with the state of Georgia.”
Michael Williams is a cum laude graduate of the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, AL, with a degree in accounting. He completed a five-year master’s level program in just four years while also working full time.
In 1999, he received the distinguished Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, which “recognizes individuals whose nobility of character and service to others sets them apart as examples to all.”
His children all attend or have graduated from Forsyth County public schools.
He and his wife, Virginia, are active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and he has served as the Young Men’s president, Scout Cub Master, Counselor in the Elder’s Quorum and Sunday School teacher.
Williams is also active in the Forsyth Community, and is a member of the Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, Forsyth County GOP, the Lake Lanier Association, the Forsyth County Tea Party, the Forsyth County Young Republicans, NRA, Georgia Gun Owners and Georgia Carry.
