First Look Inside Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium

VIDEO: Take a look at never-before-seen detail of the $1.5 billion stadium, which will be home to the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United FC.

ATLANTA, GA — About three months before the state-of-the-art facility is set to open, the Associated Press got the most detailed look yet inside Atlanta's new Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The $1.5 billion downtown stadium, which will be home to the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and Major League Soccer's Atlanta United FC, has been troubled by delays during its construction. But officials say work is now about 90 percent complete on a job that's been going on for three years.

"What we tried to do with every design element when you walk through there is we tried to look at it through the fan's eyes," said Atlanta Falcons President and CEO Rich McKay to the AP. "What would they want?"

The "goliath" of the stadium, officials say, is it's unique retractable roof. The roof is composed of triangular steel panels that are designed to open and close like a camera lens to allow games to be played either in an outdoors or dome-style setting.

Leaks in the roof have been one of the construction job's major delays. Workers are now installing water-tight seals to address the problem.

Other features shown off in the AP video including a 360-degree video board that officials call a "Halo." It's composed of 63,000 square feet of LED lights, according to McKay.

Exteriors designed to show off the Atlanta skyline, a 100-yard-long bar and a fantasy football lounge also are featured in the video — as are owner Arthur Blank's plan to make concessions affordable. (Hot dogs and non-alcoholic drinks with free refills will sell for $2 at the stadium.)
