Forsyth Student Wins Third Place at State Spelling Bee
Varun Kumar, an eighth grader at Vickery Creek Middle School, competed against 20 other students for the state title.

A Vickery Creek Middle School student took third place at the 54th Annual Georgia Association of Educators State Spelling Bee on March 20.
Varun Kumar, an eighth grader, previously won his school spelling bee, the Forsyth County spelling bee and the District 2 regional spelling bee, earning his place among 20 other students vying for the state title.
Kumar made it to the eighth round at the state bee with the word “Opificer.”

The first and second place winners were both from private schools, making Kumar the winner in the state among the public school districts.
