Ga. 400 Express Lanes Video By GDOT Previews Traffic Flow

GDOT will hold upcoming open houses in Forsyth County, Roswell and Sandy Springs for the Ga. 400 Express Lanes.

GEORGIA -- The Georgia Department of Transportation has released a video visualizing the Ga. 400 Express Lanes project. Ga. 400 is a vital north-south transportation corridor in metro Atlanta that connects people, jobs and freight, GDOT said. To improve mobility, GDOT plans to add new, optional express lanes from the North Springs MARTA Station in Sandy Springs to McFarland Parkway in Forsyth County.

The project consists of:

  • Two elevated, barrier-separated express lanes in each direction between North Springs MARTA Station and Northridge Road
  • Two buffer-separated express lanes in each direction between Northridge Road and McGinnis Ferry Road
  • One buffer-separated express lane in each direction from McGinnis Ferry Road to McFarland Parkway

The Ga. 400 Express Lanes are part of the Major Mobility Investment Program which is a state-wide effort to yield a significant reduction in congestion along key freight and passenger corridors. Once the projects are completed, GDOT estimates they will lead to a 5 percent reduction in delay and travel time savings in the year 2030.

According to GDOT, the initial 11 mobility projects rely on state and federal funding dedicated by law to improving roads and bridges. Together, they will add over 300 new lane miles in Georgia’s metro areas.

Open houses with GDOT will be held next week to provide the public with opportunities to learn more about the program, ask questions and provide feedback.
