Halcyon Celebrating GA Arbor Day With Tree Planting Wednesday
On Wednesday, Halcyon will host a free event featuring a tree planting at the Halcyon Trailhead along the Big Creek Greenway.
CUMMING, GA — Halcyon invites the Forsyth County community to gather for a Georgia Arbor Day celebration from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The free event will feature a tree planting as well as a fun educational session from special guests Keep Forsyth County Beautiful and Forsyth County Master Gardeners.
Whether attendees live on sprawling acres or at one of Halcyon’s, 6635 Halcyon Way, own apartment communities, there is something for everyone to learn. Dedicated to the beautification and community greening of Forsyth County, Keep Forsyth County Beautiful will bring its expertise to educate participants on ways to protect and respect their communities through its four core focus areas — waste reduction and recycling, beautification and community greening, litter prevention and reduction and water quality. During the event, Forsyth County Master Gardeners will also plant “The Halcyon Tree” near the Halcyon Trailhead along the Big Creek Greenway, provide a tree potting demonstration and allow participants to take home their own tree sapling to grow for a later planting. Attendees will also receive free vegetable seeds, perfect for patio container gardens.
The event will take place in the mixed-use development’s Market Hall, adjacent to the Village Green. If weather permits, the presentation will move outside, followed by a 10-minute walk over to the Greenway for “The Halcyon tree” planting. Additional event details can be viewed here.

Halcyon will also celebrate Arbor Day during its recurring Discovery Days Kids Club series on Wednesday. The weekly Kids Club will be held during regular hours, from 10:30 a.m. to noon and include a special guest appearance by Keep Forsyth County Beautiful from 11 to 11:30 a.m. The group will read a story, learn interactive movement and dance activities entitled, “Get in Touch with Trees” and “Dance with Leaves.” Additional information for the free Halcyon Arbor Day Kids Celebration can be viewed here.
Arbor Day is celebrated every year in Georgia on the third Friday in February, falling on Feb. 21 this year. The best time to plant trees in the state is between November and mid-March, because it gives the trees a chance to become established before the hot, dry period of summer.
