Lanierland Park Now Open in Forsyth County

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at the park, on Jot Em Down Road, was held Wednesday morning.

CUMMING, GA — A new park in north Forsyth County is now open to the public.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday morning at Lanierland Park, on Jot Em Down Road.

The 109-acre park was funded largely by a parks and greenspace bond approved by voters in 2008. It features four synthetic turf fields, four picnic pavilions, a playground, restrooms and concession facilities.

"Lanierland Park has been years in the making, and I would like to thank everyone involved – from the community to the Parks & Recreation board to my fellow commissioners," said county Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills, whose district includes the new park. "This park and its amenities will make a tremendous impact on the Chestatee community."

While Phase I of the park is the only portion currently open, future plans for the park include a recreation center. The timeline for future development of the park will depend upon future funding.

Named after a music venue formerly on the site, Lanierland Park will play host to some of the sporting events currently held at Bennett Park.

The music venue, which hosted country music acts, closed in 2006 and the county bought the property in 2009.
