Men Pull Handicapped Motorist from Burning Van

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office this week recognized three men for putting their own lives in danger to save that of another man.

Gary McBrayar, Terry Johnson and Todd Hollaway on Sept. 9 pulled a handicapped man from his burning van on GA 400, according to an FCSO Facebook post. The van was on fire after it was involved in a collision and the driver was unable to get out.

"These three brave men entered the burning van and pulled the driver to safety," the post says. "At the same time they administered first aid to another driver until rescue personnel arrived. We would like to salute Gary McBrayar, Terry Johnson and Todd Hollaway for being true American Heroes."

The handicapped man's wife shared the photo of "the brave men who rescued James from the van, that day of the horrible crash" on the Facebook page, Handi-Capable, which details the Dawsonville man's story—the once-active entrepreneur suffered a broken neck diving into the ocean in Mexico.

"It was my husband they pulled from that van," she commented. "I have never got to meet them in person, but I will cherish what they did that day forever, I don't know what I would do without them or my husband.

"If I never get to meet you please know that I am forever grateful for what you did that day!"
