Metro Atlanta Home Prices Up Almost 17% in January

On Tuesday, S&P/Case-Shiller released its January housing data report, the leading measure of home prices across the county.

Metro Atlanta’s home prices were up 16.8 percent year-over-year in January, but down a tad at 0.1 percent from December.

The Case-Shiller Index saw prices dip 0.1 percent across the 20 major cities it tracks, though they went up 0.8 percent when seasonally adjusted.

“The housing recovery may have taken a breather due to the cold weather,” David M. Blitzer, Managing Director and Chairman of the Index Committee for S&P Dow Jones Indices, said in a news release.

Across the nation year-over-year, New York (at a 6.7% gain) and Washington D.C. (at 9.2% gain) posted their highest year-over-year returns since 2006. Others included, Los Angeles 18.9%, San Diego 19.4% and San Francisco 23.1%.
