National Merit Corporate Scholarship Awarded In Forsyth County

Students from Forsyth County are among roughly 1,000 seniors who've won a corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship award.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — Students from Forsyth County are among roughly 1,000 seniors who've won a corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship award.

Winners from Forsyth County schools include:

Denmark High School

  • Veda S. Nune will receive a National Merit ADP Henry Taub Memorial Scholarship. Merit Scholarship awards are funded by the ADP Foundation for the children of ADP employees. Nune plans to study finance.
  • Siddharth Boyeneni will receive a National Merit James E. Casey Scholarship, which is for children of United Parcel Service employees are supported by the UPS Foundation, in honor of the founder of United Parcel Service. Boyeneni plans to study academia.

Forsyth Central High School

  • Ayush Panda will receive a National Merit - The PwC Charitable Foundation Scholarship. The PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc., a section 501(c)(3) organization, supports people when in need and invests in emerging solutions to society's greatest challenges in education and humanitarianism. Panda plans to study computer science.

Lambert High School

  • Jonathan Liu will receive a National Merit State Farm Companies Foundation Scholarship. Each spring, the Foundation awards 100 scholarships to legal dependents of employees, agents, and retirees of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company and its subsidiaries. Liu plans to study computer science.

South Forsyth High School

  • Avinash S. Atluru will receive a National Merit Walgreen Co. Scholarship. Walgreens' strategy is focused on convenience. The company strives to provide its patients and customers with outstanding service and the latest technology available. Atluru plans to study neuroscience.
  • James C. Gebhardt will receive a National Merit James E. Casey Scholarship, which is for children of United Parcel Service employees are supported by the UPS Foundation, in honor of the founder of United Parcel Service. Gebhardt plans to study politics.
  • Dhriti Pentela will receive a National Merit James E. Casey Scholarship, which is for children of United Parcel Service employees are supported by the UPS Foundation, in honor of the founder of United Parcel Service. Pentela plans to study medicine.

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced the awards Wednesday.

Scholars were selected from finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition who met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Corporate sponsors provide scholarships for finalists who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsor wants to encourage

Most awards are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study, and they provide annual stipends from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.

Wednesday's announcement of 2021 scholarship winners is the first this year. The National Merit Scholarship Corp. will name recipients of $2500 scholarships on May 12, and winners of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards on June 2 and July 12. By the conclusion of this year’s competition, about 7,500 academic champions will have won National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $30 million.
