New Year's Weather Forecast For the Atlanta Area: A Chance Of Rain

ATLANTA, GA — It won't be quite as toasty as it was on Christmas Day when we ring in the new year. But if you're reveling your way into 2017 outdoors, it could get a little soggy.

There's a 70 percent chance of showers on the night of New Year's Eve. That's Saturday, by the way, if you're losing track of the days.

The rainy weather is predicted to continue on to New Year's Day, too. Sunday morning, there will be an 80 percent chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

At least it won't be too bitterly cold if you get wet. The low on New Year's Eve will be about 42, with the high on New Year's Day getting back up to 55.

Here's a look at the forecast for now through New Year's Day:

Wednesday night: A chance of rain, then rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Thursday: Rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9 a.m, then a chance of rain between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 52 by 5 p.m. Thursday night should be clear, with a low around 33.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 48. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. On Friday night, mostly clear, with a low around 32.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 8 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 50. On New Year's Eve, showers are likely, mainly after 8 p.m. It will be cloudy, with a low around 42 and, overall, a 70 percent chance of precipitation.

Sunday: On New Year's Day, the forecast is for an 80 percent chance of showers, with a high near 55 degrees. More showers predicted for Sunday night, with an 80 percent chance of rain and possibility of thunderstorms. Low will be around 51.
