CUMMING, GA – Ponce De Leon Music Center in Cumming, is throwing its 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, Aug. 18. Scheduled activities include food trucks, music by local musicians, a drawing for a store gift certificate and inflatables for children to enjoy. The center’s location is 1060 Dahlonega Highway, one mile north of the Cumming Library. Festival begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.
Ponce De Leon Music Center has served metro Atlanta since 1968. Originally the store was located on the square in Decatur on Ponce de Leon Avenue, hence its name.
“My grandfather served in the Air Force, then eventually started the Ponce store,” said Max Fischer. “In the late ‘80s they moved the store, building and all, to Cumming.” Fischer currently works at Ponce De Leon Music Center as their guitar and stringed instrument repair specialist. On weekends he performs with New World Boss, a local band.

Last July the music store passed its reins to new owners Derek and Kathy Hines and Shawn Rochester. Rochester also serves as the store’s general manager. “Ponce has been a source for school band instrument rentals in Forsyth county for well over a decade,” he said. “We have provided instruments for rock musicians for 50 years.”
