This Weekend, Change Your Clocks and Change Your Batteries

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA – Sunday, March 10, marks the start of daylight-saving time, and the Forsyth County Fire Department is encouraging residents to take this opportunity to change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

“We highly recommend changing batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms every six to 12 months, so it makes sense to change the batteries when changing clocks for daylight-saving time,” said Division Chief Jason Shivers. “Simply taking a few minutes twice a year to replace batteries and test alarms could be a life saver for families.”

Prior to replacing alarm batteries, review the recommendations provided by the unit’s manufacturer, and replace the units themselves every seven to 10 years. It’s also important to test the alarms at least once a month by pressing the TEST button.

The Fire Department also reminds residents of the following safety precautions:

• Install a smoke alarm on every level of the home
• Ensure smoke alarms are clean and free of dust
• Dial 911 in case of any emergency
