Woman's Pupils, 'Clicking Sound' Leads To Drug Bust in Forsyth

A driver following too closely and cracked windshield caught the deputy's attention.

UPDATE: 1-3-14 (Per Jennifer Caracciolo of Forsyth County Schools, Zachary "Sheffy" Michael Sheffield is not an employee of North Forsyth High School as was previously stated in the article published on December 22, 2013 at 08:51 p.m.).

An apparent routine traffic stop in Forsyth County turned into a drug bust due to the behaviors and appearances of a driver and her passenger.

A Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputy traveling south on GA 400 in Alpharetta spotted Dec. 13 a 2004 black Pontiac Grand Prix allegedly following another vehicle too closely about 7:30 p.m., according to spokesman Deputy First Class Doug Rainwater. A crack in the windshield that extended from one side of the car to the other side also caught the deputy's eye.

As the officer was speaking to the driver, Erin Kathleen Korbar, 19, a cosmetology student from Dawsonville, he noticed her passenger was breathing heavily and had sweat beading up on his forehead.

Korbar allegedly had thick speech and "her pupils stood out being much larger than normal," according to Rainwater. As Korbar spoke, the deputy could hear a "clicking sound" and it appeared she had a dry mouth.

Authorities say Korbar and her passenger, Zachary "Sheffy" Michael Sheffield, 21, of Cumming, were in possession of a Schedule I narcotic, marijuana and a 9 mm pistol.

The Forsyth County Narcotics Unit was called in and took over the investigation.

Korbar and Sheffield were each arrested and charged with possession of MDMA, also known as ecstasy or "Molly", with the intent to distribute, possession of MDMA, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm during a drug-related felony. Korbar additionally was charged with following too closely and having a cracked windshield.
