Gwinnett's Unemployment Rate Follows Seasonal Trend with Increase from May to June
The number of education workers unemployed during the summer and new graduates have contributed to increases in unemployment rates around the state.

Gwinnett County's unemployment rate was at 7.4 percent in May and rose to 7.9 percent for the month of June. This preliminary data was by the Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday, July 25.Â
The county's rate is lower than metro Atlanta’s rate of 8.9 percent in June, which was up seven-tenths of a percentage point from 8.2 percent in May.
According to the labor department, the rates increased primarily because of two seasonal factors: high numbers of education workers are unemployed during the summer and new graduates are considered unemployed until they find a job.
Gwinnett County's labor force was at 443,921 individuals in June, with 35,215 of those unemployed.Â
