Kitchen Grease Fire Damages Dave & Busters

The fire at the Sugarloaf Mills Mall location was reported early Monday morning.

A grease fire in the kitchen at Dave & Busters in Sugarloaf Mills Mall has closed the business until repairs can be made.

Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said the fire was reported around 5:30 a.m. Monday, and was isolated to the stovetop and vent-hood system. The fire was extinguished at 5:55 a.m.

The business was closed at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

“It appears that a grease fire erupted on the stove and caused flames to travel up the vent pipe and exit at the roof level,” Rutledge said in a news release. “The majority of fire, smoke and heat damage was contained to the immediate area around the stove and the vent chase leading to the roof.”

The blaze caused moderate damage to the stove area and sent residual smoke throughout the kitchen.

Firefighters had to pull ceiling material inside the kitchen and part of the roof covering while fighting the blaze. Also, a sprinkler head located in the ceiling activated and sent water throughout the kitchen.

There was no fire or smoke conditions found inside the mall and no other damage was reported, Rutledge said.

The fire appears to be accidental, according to investigators.

“The business will be closed until the damage is repaired,” Rutledge said.
