Otesele Igberaese, the fundraiser page creator, posted the following on Monday:

Over 30,000 dollars has been raised for the Brown family in just under 2 days, I am truly speechless. This is a prime example of how people can come together in the midst of tragedy and lift up others in a time of need. I just want to say that this is truly amazing. However, we should not stop here, let’s keep going. The ultimate goal for this gofund me is 50,000!!!!! I know we can do it, so let’s continue to give the Brown family our love and support.

Community support for the family and school has been increasingly evident since Friday, when Jared, 17, died after a 7 a.m. accident on Ga. 316 at Harbins Road. Jaison, 15, who was the passenger, died later at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. A vigil was held at the school Friday night, and Saturday’s game against Archer was dubbed a “brown out” game, during which fans dressed in brown to show their support.

A statement sent to Patch Saturday afternoon on behalf of the family said, in part:

“The parents, Paul and Merrill Brown, are grateful for all of the prayers and support for their family. Hundreds have come to Gwinnett Medical Center to show their love. They are so grateful to the outpouring of support given by their church family and pastoral staff at Lawrenceville Church of God. Several hundred students gathered last night at the Dacula High School football field for a candlelight ceremony honoring Jared and to pray for Jaison. Both Brown brothers played on the Dacula High soccer team. The family has found strength and comfort through the large outpouring of prayers and kindness from the community.”
