Fireworks Accident Over Holiday Weekend Kills West Georgia Man

A west Georgia man "holding the launch tube over his head" died on July 4 after a fireworks shell hit him in the torso, authorities said.

GEORGIA — A 23-year-old Haralson County man died over the July 4 weekend from injuries sustained while shooting off fireworks.

“The victim was holding the launch tube over his head when this tragic accident occurred,” said Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King.

Although the commissioner’s office has not publicly identified the man, several Atlanta TV stations have reported the victim is Trevor White of Tallapoosa.

According to Haralson County Coroner Patty Hutcheson, as reported by WXIA-TV in Atlanta, a shell hit White in the torso late Saturday. He died in a Bremen hospital on July 4.

A spokesperson for the state insurance department told the Atlanta news station White’s death was the only fireworks related fatality his department investigated over the holiday weekend.

White is survived by two daughters, his fiancé, his parents in Bremen and numerous other relatives, according to a post by Miller Funeral Home in Tallapoosa. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to the funeral home through its website to help cover expenses.
