Wind Advisory, Flash Flood Watch: Latest Timelines, Impacts

National Weather Service issues advisory as heavy rain, winds move toward the Atlanta metro area.

Dangerous winds are expected to join the heavy rain that already prompted a flash flood watch, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood watch is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday. A wind advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Thursday.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches is possible. Locally higher amounts are expected, particularly across the Atlanta metro area.

“The high expected rainfall amounts, combined with already saturated conditions, will keep the flash flood risk high through early Wednesday evening,” according to the weather service.

Winds will blow at 25 to 30 mph, according to the weather service, with gusts up to 40 mph.

“Numerous trees may be downed due to the wet soils,” according to the weather service. “Driving may become difficult and loose object may also be blown around if not secured.”

Minor flooding is possible, along with isolated flash flooding if heavy rain repeatedly moves over the same area.

Storm drains and ditches may become quickly clogged with debris and cause extensive street flooding and road ponding.

Those in the area should continue monitoring later forecasts and be prepared to take action, according to the weather service.
