Florence Refugee Animals Now Up For Adoption

Animals who were already in a shelter in South Carolina have been evacuated and are now available in Atlanta.

ATLANTA, GA – Animals who were already in a shelter in South Carolina have been evacuated and are now available in Atlanta. These are not animals displaced by the storm who could potentially have owners.

There are seven cats at the Atlanta Humane Society 's West Midtown location and nine dogs at their Alpharetta location who are looking for homes. The process is simple, just talk with an adoption counselor and head home with your pet.

West Midtown is located at 981 Howell Mill in Atlanta and the Mansell Campus is 1565 Mansell Road in Alpharetta.

"These animals were already available for adoption at the shelters in South Carolina, but by taking them into our care, we are enabling the shelter to free up much needed space in their facility for animals who will become lost or displaced during or after the storm and ensure the animals are safe from the storm," said Christina Hill, director of Marketing and Communications.

"The Atlanta Humane Society has an Animal Emergency Services team who is trained in disaster relief and response," she said. "When the storm started to form, this team contacted our partner shelters in the regions to see how we might be of assistance to them during this time."

Last year, the Atlanta Humane Society helped take in nearly 1,000 shelter animals from hurricane ravaged areas.
