Georgia Gas Prices Decline for 87 Straight Days

Average gas prices across the state have dropped to their lowest rates since 2008.

Gas prices in Georgia have fallen for 87 consecutive days by an average price decline of $1.03 per gallon, reaching the state’s lowest reported gas prices since 2008.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Georgia on Christmas Day was $2.32, according to AAA. Nationwide, the average price per gallon Sunday was $2.30, down exactly one dollar from this time last year.

“Low gas prices are helping consumers save more than $21 for a tank of gasoline compared to the highs earlier this year [$3.70 per gallon], and that has a positive effect on holiday shopping and travel,” said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a released statement. “The new year will bring new expectations for even cheaper gasoline. Prices could drop another 3-6 cents by New Year’s Day.”

Gas in Dallas can be found for as little as $2.23 per gallon in Dallas (at the Valero at 8064 Villa Rica Highway), according to GasBuddy.

“The world’s oil supply continues to outpace demand keeping downward pressure on oil and gas prices,” Jenkins added. “Speculators believe this trend will continue next year, so cheap gasoline should stick around for a while.”
