Georgia Weather: Weekend And Eclipse Day Forecast

The weekend is supposed to be mostly sunny. See if that will last until Monday, when Atlanta experiences a near-total solar eclipse.

ATLANTA, GA — A mostly sunny weekend will give way to a chance of rain and storms Monday when a near-total eclipse will blot out nearly all of the sun over metro Atlanta.

After issuing a hazardous weather outlook on Friday for afternoon and evening storms in the Atlanta area, the National Weather Service was predicting mostly clear skies for the weekend. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 90s Saturday and Sunday, with a 20 percent chance of rain Saturday and little-t0-no chance on Sunday.

There's a chance that could change on Eclipse Day, though. On Monday, skies are again expected to be mostly sunny — meaning fears that heavy clouds could obscure views of the eclipse are starting to fade. But there's also a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday — when the near-total eclipse will be visible starting at 2:34 p.m.
